Eamon Gilmore has welcomed
the decision of the British Government to release veteran republican Marian
Price on humanitarian grounds. Price was being held as a political prisoner as she was viewed as a serious political opponent of the British infiltrated Sinn Fein leadership in the north.
The parole board in Northern
Ireland is to release veteran republican and Old Bailey bomber Marian Price
from prison.
Price “will be released to
her home and to the care of her family and friends,” Tánaiste and Minister for
Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said in a statement.
“Her detention and declining
health have led to concerns across the political spectrum in the Oireachtas and
I know that this decision will be widely welcomed on humanitarian grounds,” he
said.
