Fellow Derry resident 30-year-old Frank Quigley, from the Elmwood Road, also denied the same charge.
Meanwhile the arraignment of a third man, 42-year-old Patrick McDaid from Beechwood Avenue, also Derry, was adjourned for legal applications.
Quigley and Canning, from Galliagh Park, were both released on continuing bail and Judge David McFarland said he would review the case again in late February before the scheduled trial date on 5 March.
A previous court heard allegations that Canning, who is married to Martin McGuinness's sister, was recorded by the police helicopter video team driving members of a paramilitary colour party at the 32 County Sovereignty Movement Easter Monday parade in the city cemetery.
