Detectives investigating the attempted murder of two police officers in north Belfast earlier this week have arrested a 25-year-old man in England.

Two officers escaped injury after pipe bombs were thrown at them as they responded to an emergency call on the Upper Crumlin Road in the early hours of Tuesday.

The man was detained in Shrewsbury this morning by PSNI officers supported by West Murcia Police and officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

He will be taken to Northern Ireland for questioning.

A 27-year-old woman, arrested in north Belfast on Wednesday, remains in custody.
