A court has been told that two handguns and ammunition found in the boot of a car in Co Down had been transported from the Republic for use by dissident republicans in Belfast.
The weapons were found in the spare wheel of a BMW 5 Series car which was stopped by the PSNI on the main Belfast to Dublin road near Hillsborough, last month.
The driver of the car, 52-year-old Paul McDaid, from Sheridan St in Belfast, denied knowing anything about the guns.
He was refused bail.
